Return a package, broken into 5 small steps
Returns are easy to forget: the box sits by the door until the return window quietly closes and you've paid for something you didn't want.
Start the return online first. Once there's a label and a deadline, the rest follows.
Start here · under 2 minutes
Open the order and check the return deadline.
Under two minutes. Put the deadline in your calendar.
The rest of the steps
- Step 2:
Start the return online.
Many stores offer a QR code instead of a printed label; choose it if you don't have a printer.
- Step 3:
Pack the item in its box or any box.
Tape it shut and attach the label if you have one.
- Step 4:
Put the package by the door, with your keys.
You'll see it on your way out.
- Step 5:
Drop it off and keep the receipt.
Take a photo of the receipt until the refund arrives.
Why this one stalls
It needs a printer, tape, a box and a trip, and you rarely have all four at the same moment.
If you get stuck
Look for a drop-off point on a route you already take, like your commute or the grocery store.
What “done” looks like
Package dropped off and the receipt saved.
These steps follow the same rules as the method in our task breakdown guide: the first step is physical and takes under two minutes, and every step after it is something you can see yourself doing. Got a head full of other things too? Start with a brain dump.
